Welcome back to The Week in Weed, your Friday look at what’s going on in the world of legalized marijuana.
The Illinois licensing lottery is in the spotlight this week. Several states may have electoral initiatives in 2022. The Louisiana Decriminalization Act went into effect this week. Finally, we introduce you to Cannabis the Cat.
The never-ending Illinois cannabis licensing saga continues. They finally issued licenses – good. And now there is another lawsuit about the next licensing round – not so good.
State election initiatives
Several states are attempting to add themselves to adult list of jurisdictions through ballot initiatives in 2022. Idaho supporters can start collecting signatures. Arkansas proponents are also busy getting John Hancocks off the citizenry. In Missouri, “formatting problems” was an issue for proponents. Oklahoma could see two initiatives to add medical and adult use to the state constitution. The Wyoming Secretary of State approved two initiatives: one on medicinal cannabis and one on decriminalization. Stay tuned for more!
As we reported back in June, Louisiana has passed a decriminalization law. The law went into effect Sunday, and the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Cedric Glover (D), launched a public awareness campaign to explain what you can and cannot do. It’s complicated based on the poster they designed.
If you’re looking for a way to explain marijuana to young people, Cannabis the Cat might be able to help. He is a green cat who rides a magic carpet made of hemp, and you can take part in his adventures with a picture book, a coloring book (because of course) or a plush figure.
Stay safe and stay safe everyone – see you next week!
